The 90's

I am an 80's baby that grew up in the 90's, the era ruled by tv shows like the fresh prince of Bel-Air, A different world, In living color, the Cosby show and Living Single, black people finally had positive, funny and educated characters on mainstream television that we could relate to .
Hip hop exploded in the 90's as well with fierce female representation from Salt-n-Peppa to the Queen herself Latifah, the 90's was a show of guts and having your own identity, an ideal communicated to us by these amazing women.
Fashion around this time was heavily influenced by hiphop and street style.Salt-n-Peppa came through with their push jackets and door knob earings
While Queen Latifah and R&B and disco songstress Phyllis Hyman made big bold statements with their nefetiti style topper hats. these, hats worn by phyllis and the queen really resonated with me and oddly enough were the inspiration for the IMANI t-shirt sold in our store.
I really love and appreciate these amazing women from the 90's who used style to express their felinity and strength. They have been a source of inspiration and and encouragement for us teaching us to do and say whatever the hell we want body and with no apologies.
